Parents: Please consider child's swim skills, confidence and maturity when selecting the swim class. A parent must be in the water with the child for the Aqua Tot classes. Aqua Tots 1 (Parent must be in the water): This class is about bonding with the parents as they provide support and guidance at all times. Children are still developing strength and coordination while exploring the water. We play games and sing songs as parents learn how to hold their children and move them through the water. Aqua Tots 2 (Parent must be in the water): For those ready to explore swimming more independently with parental guidance. Children will develop core strength, begin learning coordination of strokes and kicks while using noodles and equipment for support. Preschool (Ages 4-6): For children ready for swim instruction without the parent in the water. Skills include blowing bubbles; putting face in water with goggles; pool exploration using floatation equipment; kicking on front and back; floating on back; and using swim equipment to begin developing front and back strokes. Water safety is discussed. Games, songs and toys make this class fun and productive. Level 1 (Basic Water Skills): Child must be comfortable in the water without a parent. Class includes introduction to the water environment, blowing bubbles/putting face in the water, front/back kicks, arm scoops, water submersion, and water safety. This class is designed to teach independent swimming. Level 1B: Child must be comfortable in the water without a parent. For children who have completed Level 1 but still require basic instruction. Level 2 (Stroke Development): Child must have prior swim instruction, basic water skills and must be able to swim independently. Development of front/back strokes, rhythmic breathing, flipping front to back/back to front, breaststroke pull, and underwater exploration. Level 3 (Stroke Improvement): Child must have passed Level 2 class (or have instructor approval) and must be able to swim the length of the pool unassisted. Continued stroke improvement on front/back, breaststroke basics, introduction to butterfly, diving and treading water. This class works on endurance.
